Carroll hosted Open Mic Night on Feb. 23 from 7-9 p.m. in the upper cube. Students sang, played instruments, danced, read poetry, and made people laugh.
Jack Cossairt, a sophomore secondary education for mathematics major from Westmont, Illinois, performed a rock music set on his electric guitar. This was Cossairt’s first performance at Carroll, and he encouraged other students to perform at future events.
“I often find myself talking to people who don’t give themselves enough credit for their skills. Being humble is admirable, but I don’t think people should be afraid of showing what they can do,” Cossairt said.
“We want to give Carroll students the opportunity to perform for their fellow students so we can showcase the talent our students have,” said Patrick Harris, director of student events. “It is a fun night, much like a karaoke night where friends and students show up to cheer on the performers.”
For students interested in performing at future events, check the weekly Halo’s Happenings email sent by studentactivities@carroll.edu.
“With a community like Carroll, it seems that anyone would be met with support no matter what they did,” Cossairt said. “Performing is a unique experience that I feel you can’t get anywhere else. It’s a total blast!”
