Costco clobbers all on Softball Weekend

Even springtime snow and freezing temperatures couldn’t stop Carroll College students from hitting, throwing, sliding and limping through Softball Weekend on April 25-26.

Thirty-two teams battled for two days, leading to a championship game in which the Kirkland Signatures beat Bat and Boujee, 19-5.

The Kirkland Signatures mercy-ruled the Bat and Boujee team in the third inning, and what was meant to be a tight championship match became a blowout.

Freshman Sophia Mortag, from Cascade Montana of the Kirkland Signatures, recalls not knowing how the final game would turnout, but being excited when they won.

“We didn’t expect to win,” said Mortag. “But we creamed them and it was fun.”

Although it was a disappointing loss, the Bat and Boujee team kept their heads high and were proud of themselves just for making it all the way to the championship game.

Junior communications major Sarah Goodman from Newport, Washington, recalled how the team was bummed about the loss, but still enjoyed the weekend nonetheless.

“The championship was a rough loss,” said Goodman. “But we were just happy to be there!”

Patrick Harris, student director of student activities at Carroll College, oversaw the planning and organization of Softball Weekend.

“Softball Weekend has always been a big tradition here,” Harris said. “It’s something students look forward to every year.”

Softball weekend helps bring students together at a stressful time of year, and reminds them how important community and friendship are.

“Softball Weekend is a great opportunity to bring the Carroll campus together,” said Isaac Round, a sophomore basketball player. “It’s a chance to relax after a challenging year and spend time having fun with friends.”

This year was no different, and no matter the weather conditions or amount of bruises and scrapes, students left the fields smiling and rejuvenated headed into finals season.
