Graduation Speaker: Jack Conway

Jack Conway, ASCC president, has been chosen by his peers to deliver the Class of 2026 graduation speech at Nelson Stadium, on Saturday, May 9.

Conway has spent four years at Carroll College doing the one thing he does best: being a leader. Conway served ASCC for four years, culminating with his year as president.

Conway, from Creswell, Oregon, majored in biology and self-designed a major in chemical biology with minors in chemistry and neuroscience on the pre-med pathway.

As the 2025-2026 president of the Associated Students of Carroll College, Conway has served as a voice for his peers and was a trusted source on campus.

Those who worked alongside him have experienced his leadership firsthand.

“Jack has a way of making everyone in the room feel heard,” said classmate Brynn Notbohm, a Political Science major from Miles City, Montana.

“He leads not by authority, but by example and that is something I admire about him.

While preparing his speech, Conway reflected on the experiences that shaped him the most.

“Everything that I have been able to do here at Carroll was because of those around me,” said Conway.

For Conway, being Carroll’s student body president was never about having power, it was about the people. During his time as president, he built relationships across the campus, with students and staff. Those relationships became a foundation of everything he accomplished.  Because of these connections, he has developed an approach to leadership that is rooted in service and collaboration.

Senior year brought its own emotional weight. The excitement of what the future holds is real, but also bittersweet as Conway navigates his future, leaving friendships behind and saying goodbye to people he has become close with over the past four years.

“Being a senior definitely brings eagerness for what is next,” said Conway. “But it also brings some sadness about moving away from so many people I have gotten close to during my time at Carroll.”

When Conway steps on the podium, he has no intention of speaking as a student body president, but as a fellow peer and classmate.

“We have all gotten so much from our experience at Carroll,” said Conway. “Carroll has made a lasting change to our lives.”

Conway’s story reflects Carroll’s values, leadership, supporting others and building community. Conway plans to attend grad school.

“ I plan to take a gap year, then apply to MD/PhD programs to specialize in neonatology and earn my doctorate in biochemistry.”

As he takes the podium one final time, he carries with him not just his own journey, but the story of every member of the Class of 2026.

“I hope to adequately represent the relationship between us, as students, and the school as a whole.”
