Student Undergraduate Research Festival displays Carroll’s hard work

Carroll College’s annual Student Undergraduate Research Festival (SURF) was held in the Campus Center on Friday, April 28.

SURF is an event that encourages students of all majors to come together to showcase their research. This annual event is held during the spring semester for students to present their research they have done throughout the year.

The event encourages the public, including other students and faculty, to view everyone’s research. For students and faculty, classes are canceled so that everyone has an opportunity to participate in the research festival.

“In my project, I worked with a professor to look at mosquitos in the Helena area,” said Amber Jones, a senior health science and biology major. “Even though our research did not show any significant signs we can do more research to see the impacts.”

The event started on Thursday evening with a presentation from the keynote speaker Patricia Christian on megachurches in the global south: interdisciplinary approaches to world Christianity.

This year SURF featured 134 student posters and oral presentations. Presentations consisted of group and individual projects and students had the ability to present several they had worked on.

“Our project was on St. Peters to help them provide nutritious food for patients and also people in the Helena community,” said Zheng Zhang, exchange student senior business management and marketing major. “Our project took place over the entire semester so seeing all the work come together is amazing.”
