On Nov 20-23, the Carroll College theatre department put on their second fall semester show of She Persisted.
A compilation of ten-minute plays all written by female playwrights, including Remnants, written by student Kadence Melton, a junior theatre major from Layton, Utah.
There were a total of 8 plays, including The Early Flight, How to Get a Girl, Contropposto, Peter Pan and Wendy, Heist!, Stop Kiss, The Thought Doesn’t Count, and Remnants.
“My favorite part of it was my actors and allowing them to kind of bring their own energy into it and using that for the scene because they’re both very elevated, which I love, and that’s what I need,” said Syd Mammano. “So working with them and seeing them develop the scene was really fun.” Mammano is a 2022 Carroll alumnus, Residential Life and Housing staff member, and director of Heist.
This showing was the fifth series of She Persisted works, showcasing a variety of female playwrights. Audience members who followed along with these plays experienced a range of emotions from laughter to tears.
“My favorite part of She Persisted was getting to work with different directors in a variety of scenes and roles,” said Zofia Lampkin, a sophomore studying anthrozoology, theatre, and music from Cottonwood Heights, Utah. Lampkin was featured in The Early Flight, Peter Pan and Wendy, and Remnants. “It was awesome when everyone came together during the tech week, and we could watch everybody’s scenes for the first time!”
This was Lampkin’s fifth show with Carroll. From new to seasoned actors, many different faces participated in getting this show up and running
“This was my first time in a performance, and it was so groovy!” said Sarah Miller, a sophomore studying psychology, health sciences, and gender studies from Woodinville, Washington. Miller was featured in Stop Kiss and How to Get a Girl. “Everyone in the theater department and this production was so sweet, and I loved getting to know all of them. I hope to keep being part of future productions!”
