Door Lore, the sequel

Carroll College students have already heard the story about the missing closet doors, but it seems stories of missing doors don’t end there.

A few weeks before spring break, Carroll College students on the men’s side of Guadalupe Hall were shocked to find that on the second and third floors, a bathroom stall door was missing. Not long after this, the stall dividers disappeared on the third floor.

However, no one knew who was at work in this situation, Carroll facilities or the students.

The missing door on the second floor of Joe’s – the men’s side of Guadalupe – was stolen twice in reality. Facilities reattached a door, and then about a week later, found the same door missing, only to recover it in the laundry room. According to Syd Mammano, residence life staff and area coordinator of Guadalupe Hall, the doors went missing for the first time back on October 14.

“Other professionals think it was intentional because of the way the hinges were broken and the way it was pulled out of the wall,” said Mammano.

Stall doors have gone missing from Guadalupe Hall before, but are often recovered, in the laundry room, similar to the second door.

The stall dividers, however, did not seem to be a result of purposeful foul play when they were damaged on January 21.

“There aren’t any theories at this point, most of the dialogue between Joe and reslife was that the stalls were run down to begin with, and the residents had to use force to open them, and they could’ve accidentally been overzealous when trying to use a stall,” said Mammano.

The dividers themselves, however, did not go missing until near spring break. But that  was not the work of students, but rather facilities removed them due to the broken dividers being a safety hazard.

Due to the missing doors and the damaged dividers, whether theorized to be an accident or not, residents of Guadalupe Hall were fined $100 per person for the damage.

“I think it was reasonable to be fined, but I think they should have put more effort into an investigation as to what happened,” said Hayden Burgess, a business marketing and management freshman from Everett, Washington.
