The Carroll College Women’s Soccer team fell to the Raiders of Southern Oregon University 0-2 on Friday afternoon, Oct. 7, at Nelson Stadium.

Carroll goalkeeper Sarah Conway, a senior health science major from Belt, Montana, faced a total of 20  shots from the Raider’s offense. Blair Stapleton, a senior communication major from Billings, led the Saints on the other end, taking three of the eight shots notched by Carroll throughout the game. Stapleton leads the conference with 11 goals scored in conference games.

The two goals recorded by the Raiders occurred early in the second half, and Carroll was unable to respond.

Sunday, Oct. 9, however, the Saints were able to find redemption in defeating Oregon Tech 2-0 to close the weekend. The Saints were led by Jaymee Sheridan, a sophomore nursing major out of Helena.

“I think that this weekend was a very important round of games for us and we played really well as a team,” said Sheridan. “On Sunday, everyone came ready to win and our two goals were a team effort.”

Sheridan scored both goals for Carroll.

Sheridan opened the scoring in the 63rd minute, putting Carroll up 1-0. She then added another in the 76th minute, her third goal of the season, assisted by Emily Funseth, a junior sociology major from Great Falls, to give Carroll a two-goal lead late in the game.

“Beating OIT definitely put us in a really solid spot before going into the tournament and it’s always exciting watching an underclassman score,” said Funseth. “Especially twice in one game!”

Carroll’s women’s team had not beaten the Owls of Oregon Tech since the 2019 season; the team finished first in the conference in the 2021 season. Sunday’s win was a testament to the talent of this year’s roster.

Carroll College is now ranked fourth in the Cascade Collegiate Conference standings with an overall record of 7-3-3.

Their next opponents will be the Yotes of College of Idaho on Friday, Oct. 21, and Eastern Oregon University on Sunday, Oct. 23 both at home in Nelson Stadium. College of Idaho is atop the conference standings, with an overall record of 10-1-1, while Eastern Oregon is third.
