Track & field at home this week for Fighting Saints open

Saints Recap

The Fighting Saints gained one additional National Qualifier and saw two qualifiers move from B Standards to A Standards over the course of two meets last week. Chloe Gallagher hit the B Standard in the Pole Vault at the Providence Open in Great Falls. Zack Gacnik set a new school record in the 10,000m at the Whitworth Peace Meet in Spokane, and the time surpassed the NAIA A Standard. Brycen Gardner improved his 3000m Steeplechase time to achieve the A Standard and further his school record.

Preview

The Saints will send the whole squad out for their first home event of the year. Highlights will include the first decathlon of the season for Tucker Monaco, and the heptathlon for Sorren Reese, Gabriella Domenici, and Katelyn Christensen. Carroll will also run 4x800m Relays for the first time this year.

A slew of Saints have notched marks near the NAIA B Standards this season and will be aiming to improve this week. For the women, this includes Rylee Herbstritt (400m Hurdles) and Kayla Botkin (Discus). On the men’s side, it includes Josh Smalley (Pole Vault), Carter White (Long Jump), and Tim Sellars (Shot Put).

Multiple Frontier Conference teams will attend the meet, including Montana Tech, Rocky Mountain College, and the University of Providence. The strong competition coupled with encouraging weather predictions should make an environment conducive to great performances.

The decathlon and heptathlon will begin at 10:00 am Mountain on Thursday. On Friday, the multi-events will start at 9:00 am with running events and field events as follows:
