Carroll Track & Field Places 2nd in Frontier Conference Championships

Carroll Track & Field concluded the full team season at the Frontier Conference Championships in Billings, Montana on Friday.

In the men’s team competition, the Saints closed the gap with a strong Day 2. They placed 2nd to Montana Tech by only 5 points. Carroll’s women also placed 2nd as a group.

The Saints added a National Qualifier on the women’s side with Chloe Gallagher jumping the B Standard in the Pole Vault, winning the event, and earning All-Conference. Carroll had 7 additional All-Conference selections on Friday (Brooklyn Schultz – 3rd 100m & 200m, Paige Baxstresser – 1st 200m & 400m, Natalie Yocum – 2nd 800m, Brette Graham – 3rd 400m Hurdles, Abigail Peterson – 3rd Shot Put). The 4x400m Relay came away as Conference Champions.

Baxstresser’s 400m time was a personal best and narrowly missed the qualifying standard in that event. The 200m and 800m were the highest scoring events for the women on Day 2 at 17 points (Baxstresser – 1st, Schultz – 3rd, Sydney Miller – 6th) and 14 points (Yocum – 2nd, London Lambrecht – 4th, Kate Picanco – 5th) respectively.

Garrett Kocab was selected as the Men’s Field Athlete of the Meet. He won the Discus and Shot Put on Friday and had placed 3rd in the Hammer on Thursday. Both his Shot Put and Hammer marks were personal records. The 400m was a highlight for the Saints as well with Carroll athletes placing 1st-4th (In order – Elias Hill, Brett Glaser, Garrett Schmill, Kaiden Romney), scoring 28 total points, garnering 3 All-Conference selections, and winning the 4x400m Relay at the end of the meet. Hill’s Conference Championship win set him a lifetime best, as did Schmill’s All-Conference performance.

Carroll had 6 other All-Conference winners beyond Kocab and the 400m men on Day 2. This included Joe Ceccacci (3rd 200m), Van Gottwals (1st 800m), Bodie Smith (2nd 400m Hurdles & 3rd Long Jump), Josh Smalley (3rd Pole Vault), and Glaser (1st Long Jump). The 800m (15 points from Gottwals in 1st, Brycen Gardner in 4th, and Peter Rehberger in 6th) and Long Jump (20 points from Glaser in 1st, Smith in 3rd, and Tate Kauffman in 4th) were particularly successful events for the Saints men on Friday.

Multiple personal records were set on Day 2 across a variety of events including: Kayla Botkin (Shot Put), Abigail Peterson (Shot Put), Crisha Polk (Shot Put), Tim Sellars (Shot Put), Kinley Hamilton (Discus), Elijah Sailer (400m Hurdles), Sorren Reese (400m Hurdles), Colin Stoddard (100m), Peter Rehberger (800m), Brycen Gardner (800m), Gabby Rinker (800m), and Alexis Cooney (Long Jump).

“I was incredibly proud of the team, especially with how they stayed dialed in and determined despite being down in the team scores after yesterday,” said Head Coach Harry Clark. “Everyone competed incredibly hard today,” he added.
