Carroll College athletics ended winter sports in a strong position and is now wrapping up spring sports as teams move into conference competition for track and field, golf and softball.
Football and soccer have both opened spring training outside as athletes return to the field for offseason development. The spring sessions give both programs an opportunity to build depth, evaluate young talent and establish momentum ahead of their fall campaigns.
At the same time, several traditional spring sports are already deep into competition. Track and field, softball and golf are in full swing, with teams traveling regularly for meets, tournaments and conference play. The track and field team will travel to South Dakota on May 1 for the conference meet, with multiple athletes already qualified for nationals.
Gabriella Domenici is a junior business major from Albuquerque, New Mexico, and a member of the track and field team.
“The season has gone really well,” said Domenici. “We have a lot of athletes close to qualifying and a few that have already qualified.”
Softball has entered the busiest part of its season, with conference matchups becoming increasingly important as the Saints work toward postseason positioning.
On the golf course, both the men’s and women’s teams continue spring tournament play, using the final weeks of the semester to sharpen performances before championship events.
Golf is in the final stretch of its season, with the last tournament set for April 28-29 in Phoenix. For the first time in Carroll College history, TJ Fierling recorded a hole-in-one, boosting the team’s confidence heading into the final tournament.
Ellie Baxter, a junior from Thompson Falls, Montana, and a member of the golf team, said the season has been encouraging.
“Golf team is coming along really well,” Baxter said. “We have a pretty young team on both the men’s and women’s side, but scoring well at tournaments together. Also they got the chance to golf more tournaments this spring, which is cool.”
Meanwhile, basketball season has officially concluded following a winter defined by conference competition and postseason aspirations. The Saints finished with an All-American on both the men’s and women’s teams: Isaiah Crane for the men and Willa Albrecht for the women. With games now finished, many student-athletes have shifted their attention to offseason conditioning and preparations for next year.
The overlap of spring practices, active competition seasons and the close of winter sports creates one of the busiest times of year for Carroll athletics, as nearly every program is either competing or building toward the next chapter of its season.
