Carroll Golf Teams Finish Third at Frontier Conference Championships

The Carroll College Golf teams each finished in third place at the 2023 Frontier Conference Championships, held at Reflection Bay Golf Club.

Three days of play tested the Frontier Conference’s top golfers, and when the dust settled, Carroll found themselves sitting in third place in each of the Men’s and Women’s team events.

The Carroll Men finished with a three day total of 1049 (+185). Montana Tech finished at 966 (+102) and Rocky Mountain College ran away with a 39-over team score of 903 to take the Frontier title.

Carroll had a pair finish one stroke apart in the individual portion of the event. Leo Werschay (St. Augusta, Minn. / FR) finished No. 9 with a three day total of 255, while Jonny Hillman (Post Falls, Idaho / SR) entered the clubhouse right behind him at T-10 with a three day total of 256.

Caleb Spangler (Havre, Mont. / FR) finished his week at T-13 with a 266 three day total to give Carroll three players inside the top-15, and Kaden Matheny (Missoula, Mont. / FR) finished at 276 to round out the Carroll four.

Rocky’s Hadyn Driver won the individual medalist honors with a two-over par three day total of 218.

As was the case on the Men’s side, the Carroll Women also finished in third as a team at 1161 (+111). The Saints finished behind Montana Tech (1054) and tournament champion Rocky Mountain College (954).

Katie Fagg (Missoula, Mont. / SR) finished in a tie for seventh place individually, firing a three day total of 265. Stella Claridge (Kalispell, Mont. / FR) capped a great Freshman season with a 292 total for the event. Isa Tomazeli (Sao Paulo, Brazil / SO) finished at 296, and Echo Anderson rounded out the Carroll four with a three day total of 308.

Rocky completed the tourney sweep as Valentina Zuleta won medalist honors with a three day, ten-over par 226 total.

The Carroll golf teams will return to Helena and the young teams will look to build off of a respectable 2022-23 campaign. Hours on the course and summer tournaments should help the Saints climb back into the title picture come 2024.
