Women’s soccer season wrap up

The Carroll College Women’s Soccer team wrapped-up their season with a 3-2 loss to College of Idaho’s 24th ranked Yotes on Nov. 8.

“Our biggest strength in our last game was having persistence,” said Blair Stapelton, a senior from Billings studying communications. “We couldn’t have gotten back in that game without the determination to finish out strong.”

The sixth seed Saints and the third seed Yotes battled until the bitter end in the quarter finals. The Saints lost after a late-game goal, making the final score 3-2.

College of Idaho scored the first two goals, leaving the score at 2-0 at halftime. The Saints found some passion during the break and came back out firing.

Jaymee Sheridan, a sophomore from Helena studying nursing, earned their first goal in the 69th minute, with an assist from Molly Molvig, a sophomore from Billings studying nursing. After a penalty kick from Stapleton was saved, Sheridan struck her second goal at 88 minutes to tie the score 2-2.

With two minutes left in the match, College of Idaho’s Lily Schalke sank the last goal on a free kick leaving the score 3-2.

The Saints final conference record was 6-4-2. They finished sixth in the Cascade Conference above Montana Tech who was seventh and Rocky Mountain who was eighth.

Several members of the team received individual honors. Stapleton earned CCC Offensive Player of the Year and First Team All-CCC. Sarah Conway, a graduating senior from Belt, Montana, studying health sciences, earned Second-Team All-CCC; Emily Funseth, a junior from Great Falls, studying sociology and criminology, earned Honorable Mention All-CCC; and Amaya Winkler, a graduating senior from Billings studying biology, biochemistry, and molecular biology, earned Honorable Mention All-CCC.

Tilynn McGreevey, a graduating senior from Missoula studying health sciences, said she is most grateful for “the girls on the team that I have met will always have a special place in my heart. All of them are strong and unique. They are always there for each other and will pick you up when you’re down.”
