Senior night sends off volleyball graduates

On Nov. 1, the Carroll College Women’s volleyball team played their last home game against MSU-Northern on Senior Night.

The Saints battled hard but fell short, losing three sets to two against the Northern Lights.

The five outstanding players who walked for their senior night were Bella Hawk, Lauren Sehenuk, Maddie Wilkes, Mara Lynch, and Lexie Gleasman.

For the seniors, their final game inside the PE Center was a chance to look back on memories they made in their athletic careers.

“Senior Night was bittersweet. It was so sad saying goodbye to the gym I have dedicated so much of my time to,” said Bella Hawk, a defensive specialist majoring in biology from Charlo, Montana. “However, it brought me joy to think about all the good memories I had in my four years.”

As a senior, it is a chance to appreciate the hard work and dedication they’ve put in as a college athlete.

“To me, being a senior means being the top dog and having the most wisdom in the school,”  said Maddie Wilkes, defensive specialist and setter studying elementary education from Pocatello, Idaho. “It’s a time you sit back and are able to appreciate everything you’ve been through because it brought you to this point in your life!”

After it is said and done, and the scoreboard clicks off after their final game, our student-athletes have a lifetime of memories to share forever.

“My most memorable time with Carroll volleyball would be the spring season of 2022, filled with delirious 5:30 a.m. lifts and starting it off with 12 stair laps,” said Hawk.

“My favorite memory is probably my sophomore year, going so far in districts and making it to the championship,” said Wilkes.

After the senior night, the graduating players will head their separate ways and begin life after college athletics.

Before their final game against Rocky, the volleyball team traveled to Butte, Montana to take on school rival Montana Tech. After four sets, the team lost 3-1, rounding out the regular season.

Their senior season came to a close on Nov. 10 with a hard-fought battle against Rocky Mountain College in the first round of the conference tournament.

They went to five sets, the first set ending 21-25, the second 25-23, the third 23-25, the fourth 25-23, and the final set ending 12-15 in Rocky’s favor.

The last game of the season was led by those five seniors, who will be missed on and off the court.
