A Carroll Saint’s Thanksgiving traditions

Though perhaps a somewhat forgotten holiday in the shadow of Christmas’ frenzy, Thanksgiving is meant to be a time when family reunites to share conversation and delicious food.

Everyone has their own traditions, but the traditions my family does are special because we’re a family who likes to keep things interesting. No Thanksgiving is the same.

Every once in a while we switch things up.

My mom’s parents and sister with her children come to our house to enjoy Thanksgiving. All the grandkids help make the deviled eggs, mashed potatoes, and other side dishes. The adults take on the turkey and stuffing, my grandma brings out the ice cream maker, and we get homemade ice cream.

Other times we go over to my uncle’s in-laws’ house. They have a giant garage where my dad’s side of the family and my uncle’s in-laws’ family get together.

It is always loud with the bouncy house in the background for all the little kids to enjoy while the adults socialize and get caught up. My uncle always fries a turkey and smokes a brisket. Everyone else brings side dishes, desserts, and drinks.

This year my family and I did Thanksgiving with just us at home. It was peaceful and nice.

My mom made all of the delicious food and we played games for hours on end. It is a rare occasion we play games in my house because my little siblings don’t always get along, but when we do it is so much fun.

It is a wonderful time wherever we have Thanksgiving.

There is always laughter, happiness, and love. I am thankful for everyone in my life and couldn’t ask for anything more. Thanksgiving traditions are, in my opinion, what keep holidays exciting.
