SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – The Carroll College Men’s Soccer team fell in a double overtime thriller in the opening round of the CCC Championship to Oregon Tech, 3-1 on Monday evening.
The Fighting Saints 8-4-4, 3-2-1) saw their season come to an unfortunate end at the Cascade Collegiate Conference Championship on Monday, falling to the Owls (11-4-3) after 110 minutes of play.
Things started out well for the Saints. Ismael Navarro (Dayton, Texas / FR) scored his second goal of the season in the 23rd minute on an assist from Miguelangel Kery (Rockville, Md. / FR) to give Carroll the lead.
Just six minutes prior to the break, Oregon Tech would find an equalizer from Yuki Enemoto to even the score at 1-1 heading into the break.
A scoreless send half that saw the Saints fire eight shots, with none able to land, would lead to an overtime period for the two schools.
One overtime frame would not be enough, however, as the game would go an additional ten minutes following the second-straight scoreless period.
Oregon Tech would take the lead in the 105th minute on a goal from Andrew Passang. With Carroll now forced to attack, the Owls would find a counter-attack goal in the 108th minute to put the game away at 3-1, and end the Saints year.
The 2023 Carroll Men’s Soccer team have nothing to hang their heads about, having entered the season with little to no expectation of success from the rest of the conference, but battling for a fourth-place finish in the regular season, and the tournament’s only overtime game thus far.
