Students present their ideas for the first round of Saints Tank

On Tuesday, Jan. 31, Carroll College hosted its fifth annual Saints Tank in the lower library.

Similar to Shark Tank, Saints Tank provides a unique opportunity for students to pitch business ideas in hopes to gain funding for their project.

Saints Tank is funded by benefactor Ray Zinn, who promises $1,000 to students with viable ideas. Zinn is an entrepreneur, investor, and author who is hoping to support the next generation of Carroll alumni.

Seven business ideas were presented to the Saints Tank and ZinnStarter board. All ideas have been approved and will proceed to the final round.

“I’m hoping to get funding to create sustainable rock climbing holds, and distribute them to gyms around Montana,” said Peter Fiocchi, a freshman business major from North Chicago, Illinois.

Many students integrated their interests and passions into their business ideas.

“I’m trying to get my CPT,” said Hayden Miller, a senior business major from Camas, Washington. Miller wants to become a CPT, or Certified Personal Trainer, because he wants “to help guide athletes to be more effective in diet and fitness.”

The second round of Saints Tank will commence on Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 5:30 p.m. when these students will have the chance to present more detailed business plans to the ZinnStarter board.
