Health Sciences club joins the Carroll roster

The Carroll College Health Sciences Club is a student-led group focusing on the health of the community.

Many members are planning careers in health-related fields, and the club provides opportunities to connect with health professionals in Helena. The Health Science Club is overseen by Kelly Parsley, Health Sciences Chair since 2009, but is run by co-presidents Callie Warfle, a senior health science major from Boulder, Montana, and Katie Donaldson, a senior health science major from Havre, Montana.

Parsley says that the Health Sciences Club is “an awesome club that is committed to helping the Helena and Carroll communities.” Most recently, the club volunteered with Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies, a nonprofit organization where members of the club assembled gifts for conference attendees.

After Thanksgiving break, the club received Narcan training with Jason Grimmis, Director of Campus Safety and Security. This event taught students to recognize the signs of opioid overdose and administer the opioid overdose reversal drug Naloxone.

Co-president Donaldson contributed to setting up the Narcan training with Grimmis and was thrilled that students reacted positively toward the training because it felt relevant and helpful.

Donaldson believes the club is unique.

“One thing that is interesting about the club is that we will get to meet a wide variety of health professions through panels run by the club,” said Donaldson.

The Health Sciences Club plans to invite health professionals in the Helena community to be a part of a panel to speak to students planning to enter the medical field so they can get a scope of what jobs they can acquire after graduation. Warfle hopes to invite physical therapists, physician assistants, nutritionists, and other medical-related professionals.

“The Health Science Club is a great group of students in health-related fields,” said Warfle. “It is a great way to be involved in the Carroll Community.”

Students interested in the Health Science Major should reach out to Kelly Parsley, Callie Warfle, and Katie Donaldson to get more information about the Health Science Club.
