After a back-and-forth battle, the Carroll College Volleyball Team defeated the Great Falls Argos in the fifth set, 3-2. Carroll is currently ranked 4th in the Frontier Conference and 20th nationally.
Katherine McEuen, a senior biochemistry major from Spokane Washington, led the team in kills and digs with nine total kills and 26 digs. She placed two kills in the first set followed by three in the third and fourth sets and one in the fifth.
“The challenge our team faced was being down two sets going into the third. It’s hard to reverse sweep, but we did!” said McEuen.
Elizabeth Heuiser, a sophomore nursing major from Helena, and Madison Boles, a senior business major from Kalispell Montana, each scored six total kills.
Hannah Schweikert, a sophomore from Columbia Falls, Montana led the team in aces tallying three, and Lauren Sehenuk, a junior from Inglewood, California led the team in blocks with three followed closely by Elizabeth Heuiser, a sophomore from Helena, with two blocks.
The team had a quick turnaround and traveled to Havre, Montana to compete against the Northern Skylights on October 7th.
It was a tough battle through five sets but unfortunately, Carroll lost by two points in the fifth. Northern won the first two sets and Carroll won the third and fourth sets. The fifth set was point for point the whole time resulting in a loss of 14-16 for the Saints.
Heuiser led the team in kills with 18 followed closely by Mcuen scoring 17. Sehenuk had an astounding performance with nine total blocks, and Sidney Gulick, a freshman from Kalispell Montana, blocked six. McEuen and Julia Carr, a computer information systems major from Portland, led the team in digs both totaling 26 each.
“The only thing that runs through my head is getting up so that my pin blockers are successful. I always try to refocus after each play and find one thing to improve with my block” said Sehenuk.
