The Carroll College football team is looking to defend its conference title this fall and with these aspirations made a crucial new coaching hire with Mitch Malot as the new offensive line coach. Malot coached the same position for the Southern Oregon Red Raiders from the end of his playing career in 2017, until the end of last season.
As he looks forward to the season, Malot is excited for what’s to come.
“I think just the tradition and the winning culture that Carroll has is unmatched,” said Malot. “Coaching in the frontier you just know about Carroll and the tradition. It was a done deal to be a part of something special.”
Malot understands winning along with the dedication it takes to achieve goals as a team. As a player, he was a part of the 2017 NAIA national champion Southern Oregon Red Raider football team, starting at the center on the offensive line.
Hiring Malot to the Carroll team brings enormous knowledge on winning in the postseason.
“I want to continue that winning tradition and build off what Carroll football did last year,” said Malot. “Strive to get back to the conference champion and to make a drive in the postseason as well.”
Head football coach Troy Purcell is excited about the new hire and believes Malot brings an edge to help the team in its progression.
“He’s young and enthusiastic, and has knowledge of offensive schemes,” said Purcell. “Malot is already familiar with recruiting in the northwest part of the country. He is a sharp young coach.”
