Do you like to hike, camp, mountain bike, or ski? If so, the Carroll Adventure and Mountaineering Program (CAMP) has an abundance of activities planned for the new school year. CAMP offers a way to get outside and explore what Montana has to offer and is available for any skill set.

Helena has many outdoor adventures to offer, including mountain biking, paddle boarding, hiking, rock climbing, and many more. The goal of CAMP is to provide Carroll students the opportunity to try new activities with guidance for beginners, as well as opportunities to foster new friendships between students of different backgrounds and skill sets.

In the month of September, CAMP led many events such as climbing trips, backpacking, mountain biking, floating, and most recently a game of capture the flag during Homecoming week.

Katelyn Mckay, a junior nursing major from Helena is one of the student leaders of CAMP and helps with planning and running each event. Whether you adventure alone or tag along with the CAMP crew there are several things to look out for. “Staying safe is important when adventuring here in Montana. Always be prepared for the weather, it can change at any moment! Pack and wear layers, go in groups, know where you are going, know your own limitations, tell a friend your adventure plans before you leave, and don’t forget food and plenty of water!” said Mckay.

If you are interested in going alone but don’t have the gear, CAMP has options for rentals as well. The Gear Room at the Hunthausen Activity Center offers a variety of gear to borrow at a low cost for any Carroll Student.

If you are a student at Carroll and want to participate in a fun adventure, follow CAMP on instagram, and pay attention to your email to stay informed about upcoming activities and opportunities to get involved! Don’t miss out on this opportunity to discover the great outdoors.
