Carroll students traveled to West Fork Cabin in the Rocky Mountain Front for an overnight cross-country ski trip organized by students.
Despite the low snow conditions and a few last-minute cancellations, the trip, held at a cabin located along the west fork of the Tetons, drew a small group of students with a desire for skiing, community, and a night in the mountains.
“It was exciting to see everyone, and how the excitement brought the community together,” said Will Oley, a freshman pre-med major from Deer Lodge, Montana. “It was fun to see that.”
Bradley Maddock, who oversees the planning of campus leaders, said the ski night is an annual event and that they host two events in the winter.
The ski trail is 3.5 miles long. The rustic cabin includes bunk beds and a kitchen stove for overnight stays.
Low snowfall created some challenges this year. In certain sections, dirt patches forced students to walk portions of the trail instead of skiing.
Despite those obstacles, organizers said the trip received positive feedback from participants.
The trip was offered free of charge, and two additional ski outings are planned for next winter.
There are more opportunities for students weekly to enjoy new entertainment.
“For students who are interested in outdoor events,” Maddock said, “check out the REC email that comes out every Wednesday.”
