While it may seem that the presidential election is ancient history by now, it was a tense time in America and sparked quite a bit of controversy. This is true of every presidential election, but this one in particular.
Trump being a convicted felon is a pretty universally known fact, and up until shortly after the election it was still planned that Trump was to be tried for his possible involvement in the infamous riots on Jan. 6, 2020.
However, it was approved by the federal judge overseeing his case to dismiss the case altogether. While he may not be tried for the Jan. 6 riots, he was convicted of 34 felonies and was found guilty of sexually abusing Jean E. Carroll.
Trump will be the first president in United States history to hold criminal charges and to be impeached twice, which is an interesting historical mark.
This election has been anticipated essentially since Biden’s election in 2020, at least by Trump supporters. It hasn’t been uncommon in the last four years to see “Trump 2024,” “Let’s Go Brandon,” or “Make America Great Again” merchandise on flags, stickers, shirts, and hats.
Trump won the 2024 election, much to the dismay of many and much to the satisfaction of loyal members of the Republican Party. The election is over, but that doesn’t erase the tension or questions voters may have concerning our returning president. The deeply irritating political ads are gone and decisions have been made, but those decisions led to results and changes to be made with our country.
First, let’s discuss Trump’s policy and plans.
On Trump’s official website there are 15 issues listed as follows: Rebuild the Greatest Economy in History, Fair Trade for the American Worker, Unleash Energy Dominance, Secure Borders and Reclaim National Sovereignty, War on the Drug Cartels, Stop Crime and Restore Safety, Renew American Strength and Leadership, Reject Globalism and Embrace Patriotism, Care for our Veterans, Protect Parents Rights, Defend Law and Liberty, End Censorship and Reclaim Free Speech, Free, Honest and Lawful Elections, Drain the Swamp of Washington Corruption, and finally Better Healthcare at Lower Prices. Under each issue is a brief explanation of each issue and Trump’s plan to deal with each issue and how he dealt with it in his last term.
As far as the economy and fair trade are concerned, Trump claims to lower taxes and give more jobs back to the American people, and he also outlines his plans to implement tariffs on China to lower America’s dependence on products from China. To “Unleash Energy Dominance.”
Trump plans to keep energy resources domestic and abolish the Green New Deal. To restore national security he would like to rapidly remove illegal aliens and implement a merit-based immigration system.
Trump wants Congress to enforce the death penalty on drug traffickers and smugglers. He wants to increase penalties on assault toward law enforcement and send federal enforcement such as the National Guard and federal prosecutors to high-crime areas.
Trump plans to build a new missile defense system and rehire military members who were fired under the Biden-Harris administration. He wants to give veterans more protections and services.
Trump would also like to implement more parental involvement in education and introduce election of school principals as well as abolish the teaching of Critical Race Theory and gender education in public schools by cutting funding to schools that employ this type of education.
Trump strongly supports the second amendment and wants to reintroduce prayer to public schools and decrease private election funding.
Trump also aims to lower prescription prices and protect Medicare and Social Security. For further information straight from the source, visit his website yourself.
An interesting observation made when reading about these issues most important to our new president is that in his brief explanation, he does a lot of blaming on the Biden-Harris administration. Whether this blame is rightly placed or not, I felt it was important to note that his plans were not solely written about what he plans to do to “Make America Great Again,” but partially based on the perceived mistakes from the current administration and what they did “wrong.”
Remember that as a voting citizen, it’s important to stay informed on the policies and plans of the candidates when making your decision of who to choose on the ballot, both at the presidential level and state level, and it can be helpful to stay informed on the ongoing issues and policy changes as our returning president steps back into office.
