Women’s cross country concludes another successful season

The Fighting Saints Women’s cross country team made their way to the NAIA Cross Country Championship meet on Friday, Nov. 17 after winning the Frontier Conference Championship.

On Friday, Nov. 3, the Saints took a victory in Great Falls, winning their fourth-consecutive Frontier title and securing a spot at the NAIA Cross Country Championship.

Ranked 17 nationally, the Saints traveled to Vancouver, Washington. to compete and finish out their 2023 cross country season.

The Saints had a hard fight at Nationals by competing against 36 other teams with 331 individual runners. As a team, the Saints placed 25th.

The highest scorer for the Saints team was freshman Isabelle Ruff, a nursing major from Concord, California.

Out of a team of 28 runners, only two will be graduating this year with one from both our women’s and men’s team. On the women’s side, Nicole Morgen, a senior and math major from Bend, Oregon, ran her last cross-country race as a Saint.

“Running for Carroll’s cross-country team has been a privilege,” said Morgen. “Over my four years on the team, I’ve developed more as an athlete than I could have ever anticipated, gone on countless beautiful runs, and made some amazing friends. I’m proud of the teammate I’ve become and the team we’ve formed over the years, and I am so grateful that I got to be a part of Carroll’s cross-country story.”

“Our women have a fairly young team, but I love how competitive and willing to improve they are,” said Flynn. “Even though 25th wasn’t the place we thought we could achieve, we are still proud of who they are and of a tremendous season.”
