With the purest excitement, I welcome you to the first edition of the Prospector for the 2024-2025 school year, where I will be this year’s editor.
I invite you all to join the Prospector team as we document the year bringing event coverage to you, sharing the lasting memories made here at Carroll, and also being the voice for the students. No story can scare us away, not even the parking dilemma on campus. For now, let’s just start with an introduction.
My name is Harlie Jackson and I am a sophomore Business Management and Marketing major from Cascade, Montana. I have been writing for the Prospector since the fall of my freshman year covering international and study abroad profiles, and various sports coverage. However, this is my first year as an editor.
When you grow up in a small town, you quickly learn that a lot of different responsibilities will fall onto your shoulders. With fewer than 100 students in my high school, I took on many different roles. I continued this into college.
Here at Carroll, you may recognize me from the various roles that I take on. For starters, I am a member of the Track and Field team. While this is the first thing that attracted me to Carroll, it was not the last thing that I picked up. Eventually, I also became the Intramural Sports Coordinator, a Resident Assistant, and now the editor of this paper.
Even though I take on these different roles, I am still just a 19-year-old girl. I was raised to use my voice for good, to be compassionate, and to seek justice for those who aren’t treated fairly. In my editorials, I want to address campus issues, discuss ideas for improvements, but most importantly, hear your voices and get your opinions on creative solutions.
I look forward to being a voice for the students here at Carroll College and opening a door to creative solutions. If you have any questions or topics you would like discussed, please feel free to reach out to me by email at hjackson01@carroll.edu.
