Great Falls, Mont. – Carroll Track & Field nabbed several more National Qualifiers and one school record at the Providence Open on Thursday.
Weston Means won the High Jump, hitting the NAIA B Standard in the process. He also set a personal record in the Long Jump. Josh Smalley jumped the B Standard in the Pole Vault as well bringing Carroll’s total to four National Qualifiers. Tim Sellars surpassed his own school record in the Hammer Throw.
Several other athletes neared the qualifying standards. Brynn Wandle went out at the B Standard in the Pole Vault. Hunter Gum set a personal record in the Shot Put and fouled a mark by millimeters that would have qualified him for Nationals. Gum moved up to 4th All-Time on Carroll’s Top 10 Board. Carroll’s Men’s 4x800m Relay of Peter Rehberger, Jack Jensen, Oliver Morris, and Wyatt Ehredt missed qualifying by less than a second over the 3200m race. Morris set an 800m personal best during his relay split.
Multiple other competitors set personal records. In running events, this included Rebecca Middleton (100m Hurdles), Madalen Shipman (400m), Claire Bucklin (400m Hurdles), Ellie Baxter (400m Split), Carson Krack (400m Hurdles), Jackson Swanz (400m Hurdles), Daniel Koralewski (800m), and Ben Wallace (1500m). For field events, Tim Sellars (Hammer Throw), Krack (Long Jump), Katelyn Christensen (Long Jump), Braedyn Johnson (Long Jump), and Anna Hume (Long Jump) set lifetime bests.
Several athletes notching personal bests moved up on Carroll’s All-Time Lists. Krack’s college debut puts him at 5th in the 400m Hurdles with Swanz’ record moving him into 10th. Krack also moved into 2nd on the Long Jump Top 10 Board. Shipman bumped to 6th on the 400m List, while Bucklin jumped to the same spot on the 400m Hurdles Board.
“This was just such an awesome day,” said Head Coach Harry Clark. ” The athletes just competed hard and took advantage of the great weather to get a little bit better across the board this week,” he added.
