On Nov. 22, Carroll College hosted the annual Fall swing dance at the Lewis & Clark Fairgrounds.
The Fall swing dance is planned by Carroll Student Activities and the Swing Dance club. This event brings together the Carroll community.
The dance was completely free for everyone, with the option to come just to hang out or dance the whole night. Some refreshments and snacks were offered for everyone to enjoy and replenish their energy so they could continue dancing the night away.
This year, they added a competition. The competition started halfway through the night, and had prizes of $100 for first place, $50 for second place, and $20 for third place.
The Swing Dance club’s presence and coordination each year is a very important part of making this event so successful.
“Giving students the chance to dance the night away instead of grinding away at the clock” is what the Swing Dance club is focused on.
That is their mission.
The current president of the club is a senior and business marketing and management major, Erin Wassmuth, who is from Greencreek, Idaho.
The club has multiple events throughout the year. They also meet weekly on Wednesdays for swing dancing on campus. With this club’s motto, it makes sense why this event is so fun each year.
Many students thought it was a great event with lots of room to dance. They had a photo area for friends to document their memories.
“The swing dance was a great event and really made me feel a part of the Carroll College community,” said Emma Williams, a sophomore nursing major from Adams, Oregon.
“This was one of my favorite events of this year so far,” said Sophia Smith, a freshman health sciences major from Pendleton, Oregon. “Swing dancing is one of my hobbies, and I got to join that with Carroll.”
“I loved the overall atmosphere of the swing dance,” said Ashlyne Smallwood, a sophomore anthrozoology major from Preston, Connecticut. “It was fun and really cool to see the competition and all the talented dancers.”
This event was a raging success, and many are already looking forward to next year’s swing dance.
