Back-to-school: Student Life Tips

We all know that back-to-school season brings many emotions. We’re excited, but there’s also that anxiety about long study days, balancing school with a social life, and navigating all the ins and outs of college.

Lucky for you, here’s some must-have advice from someone who’s been around the block a few times.

First, designate a study spot and make it your own. Whether it’s a cozy corner of your room or your favorite coffee shop, find a space where you can get comfortable. Romanticize it! Set up your favorite study snacks or treat yourself to your go-to caffeinated drink. Getting into a routine with these small things can help boost motivation and productivity.

Second, make sure you have something to look forward to each week. You need time to unwind with friends or enjoy an activity that takes the edge off. It could be as simple as setting aside time to finally read that book you’ve been meaning to start. Invite friends to explore a fun local activity—grab some Big Dipper ice cream or head to Paint a Pot for a creative break.

Third, the key to getting back into the groove is taking care of you.  Stay active, join a new club, drink water (yes, it’s cliché, but it’s true), and fuel your body with the right foods. Managing your stress is just as important—if you need a break, take it. Pushing yourself to the limit isn’t always the best strategy. Don’t hesitate to ask for help! You don’t have to do it all alone, and Carroll offers some great resources for anything you might need, such as the Wellness Center and even tutoring services.
