Campus housing for Carroll College students is operating in good form, with space for new students forecasted out as far as five years.
Carroll currently provides on-campus housing for more than 800 students, between residential halls and campus apartments. This number falls short of the maximum capacity by roughly 400 beds, with Carroll’s maximum operational capacity being 1,200 beds.
Assistant Dean of Students Zack Eckerdt said space for two additional apartment buildings is available, although a timeline for any expansion is unknown.
Housing costs are expected to rise between 1% to 5% every school year, a shift typical for most colleges with on-campus housing. Included in this cost are utilities like internet and food, as Carroll strives to maintain food security for all its students.
Traditional dorm-style housing is a focus for Carroll, with continual renovations keeping buildings that are more than 100 years old up to modern standards. Currently, St. Charles contains the oldest rooms, with plans in place to modernize within the next couple of years.
Eckerdt believes that one influence on the perception of housing availability may be specific housing desires not being met. Despite this, Eckert said they try to fulfill all housing requests.
“It’s a living and breathing process. We work the housing list and requests all the way to move-in day,” Eckerdt said. “Changes are possible, we work really hard to get students in the places they want.”
