Staff Profile: Meet Devon Baney!

Welcome to the first edition of the Prospector for the 2024-2025 school year. My name is Devon Baney, and this is my first year writing for the Prospector.

I am a Junior going for a business management and marketing major and a minor in public relations and social media.  I am from Conrad, Montana.

Growing up in Conrad showed me what community was about since it is a small town where everyone knows everyone. It also is where I found some of my interests such as basketball and weightlifting. My whole family would play basketball while I was growing up, so it furthered my interest in it and made an impression on my life.

Growing up in a small town allowed me to participate in any activities I wanted to.

Growing up my main interest was basketball; my friends and I would play basketball at the local courts every day. I was fortunate enough to have a travel basketball team played in tournaments across the state. Traveling and meeting new teams and players across the state made me realize how much I liked to socialize with people whether I knew them or not.

Because of that love for basketball, weightlifting, and socializing, you will often find me lifting or playing pickup basketball in the HAC or socializing with groups across campus. I am always looking to play a game or meet new people.

The community at Carroll makes me feel at home as it is a very close community where everyone is willing to help one another. This has made my last couple of years very comfortable as I know if I need some help, I can ask nearly anyone on campus.

After Carroll, I plan to pursue a career in marketing in the sports industry and potentially a career in entrepreneurship to further pursue my career and personal goals.

I can’t wait to see what the rest of college has for me and I am thankful to be spending it at Carroll!
