Speed Friending

Ten students spent part of their evening on Wednesday, Jan. 28, meeting their peers at Carroll College’s inaugural “Speed Friending” event.

This event was created by Sydney Mammano, the area coordinator of Guadalupe Hall, and Patrick Harris, the director of student activities and leadership, to bring students together.

Mammano, who works at Carroll in the housing department and oversees the resident assistants, came up with the idea for the event.

Taking inspiration from classical speed dating-type meet-ups, Mammano decided to create an opportunity to help more students make good friends and find roommates.

In addition to the 10 students who participated, five more students helped to run the event.

“I wanted to see if some of my residents would come,” said Sarah Miller, a resident assistant from Woodinville, Washington, who helped run the event. She is a sophomore majoring in health sciences and psychology.

Despite the low attendance, those who attended appeared to enjoy their time.

“It’s interesting,” said Nolan Forseth, a junior who’s dual-majoring in business management & marketing and Catholic studies from Fairfield, Montana. “It was making me laugh.”

Harris, the director of student activities and leadership at Carroll, said he’s glad they did this.

“With the number of people we had, I think it was a good practice run, and I think it was good for those that benefited from it,” said Harris, adding that he and Mammano plan to do more events like this in the future.
