Many Carroll students got out and enjoyed Montana’s many recreational activities.
Julia Powell from Fairbanks, Alaska, majoring in business management and marketing, who loves the outdoors, took a beautiful hike called Storm Lake Hike in Anaconda, Montana.
Storm Lake Hike is located about 20 minutes from Anaconda. It is described as a high-altitude lake with crystal clear water and untouched natural surroundings.
It is different from other Montana hikes in the area. It is a pretty easy hike to the top, described by Powell, but the road up can be difficult depending on what type of vehicle you have.
It is known for multiple recreation activities such as fishing, paddleboarding, and kayaking. However, it is not as popular because of the difficult road to get to the hike and to the top of the lake.
Powell heard about this hike from a family member who lives in the area. The hike was spoken very highly of, and easily convinced Powell to go. Powell says the hike was not difficult, and anyone in good health could do it.
“The beautiful lake and mountain landscape at the end,” said Powell.
Powell recommends this hike to anyone who is nearby and says she will definitely do the hike again.
Powell says the only thing she would change is the access road to get to the base of the hike, as the dirt road was quite rough.
Peter Branaccio, writing in Bozeman Magazine, described the lake poetically.
“(The lake flows) with a touch of flame, the entire lake suddenly illuminates in a stunning reflection of soaring mountains,” wrote Branaccio. “With a flash, the entire scene now sits directly on the lake in front of me. It is a tableau of absolute perfection.”
In this article, he also talks about how untouched nature is around and how lucky he is to have seen this type of beauty.
