President Cech hosts scholarship night for prospective students

Every year, Carroll College invites dozens of prospective students to campus for dinner, tours, and a celebration for the scholarship winners.

On Feb. 20, 75 students and their families arrived on campus for this event. These students came from all over the US to attend the two-day event. High school seniors from as far as Alaska and Missouri made the journey to Helena for their recognition.

The scholarships celebrated were the Presidential, Bishop Carroll, and Trustee scholarships. Students who had earned any of these titles were recognized at a ceremony.

They also got to enjoy dinner in the Campus Center followed by the Scholarship ceremony and mass. On the following Monday morning, the parents and students sat through separate presentations before lunch and the campus tours.

Richard Hinton, the vice president of enrollment at Carroll, explained that the tradition is “important for the students who will be joining us, and for the students who remember attending the events themselves before they came to Carroll.”

Mira Zike, a graduating nursing major, remembers attending this event herself four years ago. This event was the first time Zike had visited the campus. By the end of the weekend, she had made her decision to attend Carroll.

“It was really fun to meet all the prospective students,” said Zike. “When I came to campus months later, there were people I could recognize. It really helped me make my decision.”
