Madame President: Jennifer Glowienka will lead us

The wait is over.

After a period of interim co-presidents, the Carroll College Board of Trustees has officially announced Dr. Jennifer Glowienka, Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, as the 20th President of Carroll College.

At an announcement ceremony in the lower cube on Nov. 24, the Carroll College Board of Trustees gathered along with faculty members, students, and other members of the community.

During the ceremony, Joyce Stewart, chair of the Carroll Board of Trustees, welcomed all those who had gathered.

Since June 25, 2025, Carroll has been operating under interim co-presidents Dr. Jennifer Glowienka and Bishop Austin Vetter, Bishop of the Diocese of Helena.

On May 1, 2025, it was announced to the community that Dr. William Ruud would be taking the position of president. Then, less than two months later, the board of trustees announced that, due to unforeseen circumstances, Ruud would not be assuming the position.

Glowienka and Vetter were assigned as co-presidents following that announcement.

Stewart could hardly contain her excitement as she recognized all those who took part in the search for the 20th Carroll President. Stewart shared that during the search process, Glowienka had to undergo a more rigorous search process than other candidates.

“She was interviewed by the entire board,” said Stewart. “And we have a board of nearly 30 individuals; no other candidate had to be interviewed by the entire board.”

Stewart also revealed that the board voted unanimously to confirm Glowienka as the 20th President of Carroll College. Glowienka also makes history as the first woman to serve as a fully appointed president of Carroll College. Dr. Paula McNutt served as interim president from 2011-2012.

Glowienka has served Carroll College for more than 20 years. She began her career as a professor of biology before serving as the chair for the Department of Life and Environmental Sciences between 2012-2018.

Glowienka was later appointed as the Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs and the Dean of the College. In these positions, Glowienka oversaw the academic departments across campus.

“I would just like to say I look forward to working with the students as I continue the co-presidency,” said Glowienka. “In the future, we really want to support students and ensure academic excellence. (We want them to know) that they belong and are valued.”

Dr. Glowienka is set to assume the position of Carroll College President on July 1, 2026.
