Andrew Cook scored 24 points as the Carroll College Fighting Saints took down Montana Western 83-73 Saturday night in Helena.
“Feels good to be able to sweep a team in this league,” said Cook, a junior psychology major from Huntington Beach, California. “People don’t understand how hard it is to beat a team three times, so it’s a testament to the grit of the team. But the jobs not finished”.
This was the final meeting between the two schools, with the Saints’ coming out on top in all three. Carroll now improves to a record of 15-9 on the season, with a conference record of 9-2.
Kendall Moore, a junior marketing major from Dayton, Ohio scored 14 points and dished out three assists. Isaiah Moore, a sophomore education major from Fairfield, California, added 12 points and four rebounds off the bench for the Saint’s.
The difference in the game proved to be Carroll shooting 24 of 27 free throws. Five different players made free throws, with Kendall Moore leading the way making eight of nine.
The gritty win from the Saints secured their ranking as the second seed in the Frontier conference. Their win Saturday also clinched a first round bye for Carroll in the upcoming conference tournament.
The Saints’ have upcoming matchups with the University of Providence at home Thursday, Feb. 15 and Montana Tech in Butte Saturday, Feb. 17. Both games have big postseason implications as they are the regular season finale against both teams respectively.
“It was a great effort against Western to earn the season sweep,” Carroll Head Coach Ryan Lundgren said following the game. “They are a very good team that’s played well of late, so for us to win that game with a first round bye on the line is a big deal.”
