Sophisticated Carroll students acted like grade schoolers again as they charged up Charlie’s hill to get their eggs. About 50 seconds, and over 3000 Easter eggs later, the annual hunt was over and the students pretended to be serious students again.
For several weeks CSA stuffed easter eggs full of goodies in preparation of the infamous Carroll College Easter Egg Scramble. The event was created back in 2007 by Scott Forthofer who was the Area Coordinator at the time.
The scramble took place on April 15, on St. Charles Lawn at 5:15 p.m., with over 3000 eggs. An additional 1000 eggs were also filled for the annual little kids Easter Egg Hunt on April 14 at 5:30 p.m.
“It takes about 50 man-hours to complete the preparation for the event. The actual event takes about 50 seconds, so an hour of preparation for every second of the event,” said Patrick Harris, director of Carroll College Student Activities.
But what made students show up for an event like this? The prizes.
Prize slips in some of the Easter eggs included: A JBL Flip 5, Two KODAK Printomatic Full-Color Instant Print Digital cameras, and multiple different types of gift cards.
Even with so many eggs spread out on the field, the race was on. What appeared to be more than 100 students showed up to test their luck and beat their friends to the eggs.
“Candy or Bluetooth speakers, I didn’t care. The adrenaline drove me to get as many eggs as there is sand on the beach,” said Jennifer Cruz, a sophomore psychology student from Germany.
