The Saints competed in Tallahassee, Florida, on Friday, Nov. 18, in the NAIA National Meet. Carroll’s women placed 22nd in the 5k and Carroll’s men placed 25th in the 8k.
“I was really proud of the teams overall for such a confident, consistent season,” said Coach Shannon Flynn. “The men were incredibly selfless in the way they raced in packs all year, and the women were especially committed to building close relationships and supporting each other.”
The Saints raced seven women and seven men at nationals. Representing the women’s team were Katelyn McKay, Nicole Morgen, Kyle Olson, Hannah Sempf, Reghan Worley, Natalie Yocum, and Hanna Ziegenhagen. The men’s team’s runners were Brycen Gardner, Van Gottwals, James Normandeau, Connor O’Hara, Zach Rector, Clayton Ryerson, and Spencer Swaim.
Several individuals had impressive performances and achieved personal records in the race. Nicole Morgen, a junior from Bend, Oregon, studying math, and Hanna Ziegenhagen, a sophomore from Dalles, Oregon, studying nursing, ran their fastest times ever for 5k in cross country. Van Gottwals, a senior from Billings studying civil engineering, and James Normandeau, a junior from Ronan, Montana, studying health sciences, ran personal bests in the 8k.
Reghan Worley, a senior from Evanston, Wyoming, studying political science and history, placed highest for the women at 67th and Spencer Swaim, a senior business marketing and management major from Spokane, placed highest for the men at 129th.
