Legendary Retreat: Frosh climb their mountain!

On Sept. 5-7, 49 first year students from the class of 2029 headed up to Legendary Lodge for their first official college retreat.

“My favorite part of the retreat was the digital disconnect that allowed for better connections,” said frreshman Evelyn Dachs, a nursing student from Helena.

The retreat is held yearly at Legendary Lodge, where the service connection isn’t that great, but the social connection is memorable.

Students spent their time relaxing, making new friends, and climbing a mountain for Mass.

“Mass on the mountain reminds me a lot of the sermon on the mount, it impacts you pretty hard,” said Sean Monaco, a junior philosophy major from North Augusta, South Carolina, who returned to help with freshman retreat this year.

More than 20 upperclassmen returned to the freshman retreat this year to lend a hand to the new class. Faculty and alumni helped cook, offering up their weekends.

“Freshman retreat is a beautiful time to build community and to give space for the lord to work in our hearts,” said Father Tyler, Carroll College’s director of campus ministry. “This class was incredibly receptive, and it made the weekend a joy.”

Tyler has been at Carroll for three years. He graduated from Carroll in 2012.

If you didn’t get to go on Freshman retreat this year, not to worry! Any upperclassmen can help on the retreat, even if they haven’t gone, and still see what it’s all about. It’s a beautiful way to receive and meet the incoming class.
