On Feb. 14 the annual Love Your Dog, Love Your Horse poster event for the canine and equine science classes was hosted.
Dr. Marie Suthers, an Anthrozoology professor at Carroll, started the event in 2012. Dr. Suthers has more than 25 years of experience in veterinary practice, academic and community education, and the study of human-animal interaction.
During this event, students in the canine and equine science classes each select a breed from their respective classes and create a poster with information about that breed. The posters are then hung out in the Upper Cube for the rest of the Carroll community to see.
Shared by the Anthrozoology sophomore and junior communities, the event allows the rest of Carroll to learn more about the program and see the students in paper action. The students from the canine science and equine science classes put together posters of a breed from the respective classes.
There was then an opportunity for students to vote for their favorite posters at the event.
“I think it’s a very special event; students take pride in showing off their hard work and what they’ve learned,” said Kaitlin Cornell, director of the Anthrozoology Canine Center.
Biology sophomore Andie Gieser from Park City, Montana, was one of the winners of this small competition.
Junior Miriam Tangen for equine science with her breed poster of Clydesdales was the second winner with her breed poster of West Highland Terriers.
Both students received small gifts from the Anthrozoology Canine department.
“I thought it was a great way to share the Anthrozoology department and let people show a little bit of what we do!” said Tangen, who is from Bonney Lake, Washington.
