Julia Carr: All-American

On Tuesday, Jan. 14 the College Sports Communicators (CSC) announced the Academic  All-America Volleyball Teams for the 2023-24 season, which includes Carroll’s Julia Carr.

The CSC announced the teams for Division I-II-III and NAIA.

Carr, a senior computer information systems (CIS) major from Portland, Oregon, captured Second Team Academic All-American for the NAIA. In her time at Carroll, Carr maintained a 3.86 GPA.

Carr, not only an academic weapon, was a defensive star on the court and led the NAIA in digs per set (7.0) for her second straight season. On top of that, Carr led the nation this year in total digs (840). Carr also holds two program records, finishing five seasons with a total of 3,255 digs with an average of 6.43 digs per set.

On top of being named Second Team Academic All-American, Carr’s work on the court earned her Defensive Player of the Year for the Frontier Conference. Other honors that Carr earned include Honorable Mention AVCA All-American and a First Team All-Conference.

“It’s always been my goal to be defensive player of the year and an All-American, but again I want to give credit to my coaches and teammates,” said Carr. “Coach Mo pushed me to be the best version of myself and my teammates supported me and allowed me to grow.”

Carr has become the second player in program history to be named CSC Academic All-American. She joins Jenna Stark who received Second Team All-American in 2019.

“It always seems that when one leaves the program someone rises and in this case they (Carr) have left footprints for others to aspire to, those who played alongside her will still have that spirit when they play that Julia would be proud of,” said Maureen Boyle, head volleyball coach for Carroll.

The Carroll Volleyball team finished the season with a record of 17-13, going 5-10 in conference play. They were eliminated in the first round of the Frontier Conference Championship.

Carr has now graduated and is looking to get into tech sales using her degree in computer information systems.
