After a few weeks of getting settled into classes, sports, and school routine, the Carroll Saints celebrated Homecoming and Family Weekend.

The weekend began on the evening of Thursday, Sept. 19 with the annual Saints March. At this celebration, the marching  band, cheerleaders, and dance team led all of Carroll’s athletes through downtown Helena to celebrate the beginning of our Homecoming weekend.

“I think the March is a great way to connect with all the different teams,” says Harlie Jackson, a sophomore from Cascade, Montana, who is on the track team while getting her degree in business. “It’s also a good way for the community to get involved and show some Saint spirit.”

Friday’s homecoming sports events began with the Women’s Soccer team playing Rocky Mountain from Billings. The game ended 1-1; giving the girls their third tie of the season. The men’s soccer team also played Rocky Mountain, winning 3-0.

The Volleyball team played Montana Western on Friday night, playing three sets and winning all of them with scores of 25-20, 25-10 and 25-21. Friday evening was also the opening showing of Carroll’s Theater Department’s production of Little Women: The Musical, and the Homecoming Kickoff bonfire and pep-rally.

Saturday’s events started early with the Athletic Hall of Fame on Saturday morning. Easton Padden, a  graduated track alumni turned successful entrepreneur was inducted into the Hall of Fame.  Campus ministry hosted Rosary at the Grotto later in the morning, allowing students and families to come together before the alumni and family tailgate preceding the Fighting Saints Homecoming game.

The Carroll Saints football (2-1, 1-0) homecoming game against Simpson University was opened by Father Tyler with a prayer and the talented Carroll Chamber Choir sang the National Anthem. Carroll was up 17-0 by the end of the first half. During the second half, without a single point scored by Simpson, Carroll scored 35 more points. Saturday’s game against Simpson University was a sweeping success, with the Carroll Saints winning 52-0.

During halftime, the Homecoming Royalty was announced. Isa Tomazeli and Spencer McDonald were crowned our Senior Homecoming King and Queen,  Madison Lewis, and Jackson Barney as Junior Prince and Princess, Shea Ostberg and Sean Monaco as Sophomore Prince and Princess, and Camryn Clark and Evan Sailer as Freshman royalty.

The football game was followed by volleyball, where the Saints lost to Montana Tech in four sets 15-25, 25-17, 26-24, 27-25. After the Saints won the first match by 10, they put up a good fight and stayed neck and neck with Montana tech for the rest of the game.

Winding down the weekend celebrations, Sunday morning started with Mass for students and visitors in the All Saints Chapel. The women’s soccer team played the Wolves from Walla Walla University in Washington and very successfully won with a final score of 15-0. The Men’s Soccer team also played Walla Walla’s men’s team, beating them by a margin with a final score of 7-0 and earning the Saints their second conference win of the weekend.

Sunday afternoon also included another performance of Little Women: The Musical.

“Opening night was actually fantastic, we had a turnout of about 55 and yesterday we had a turnout of about 77 come out,” said Sydney Mammano, the stage director for ‘Little Women.’ “It’s just an amazing cast, they’re all so full of energy, they’re all so willing to jump in and do the hard work.”
