The Carroll College Women’s Soccer team picked up a neutral-site victory over NCAA Division II opponent, Black Hills State (S.D.) this evening in Billings, Mont. with a 1-0 final score.
The Fighting Saints (3-0-0), sporting a youthful starting-11, are off to a quick start in 2023. They toppled Black Hills State (2-1-0) tonight in the first of a pair of games against NCAA Division II schools they’ll play this weekend.
As has been the case in every Carroll game thus far, the Saints were the aggressor. Carroll out-shot the Yellow Jackets 13-3 in the game, finishing with five shots on goal.
In a hard-fought and tightly contested game, Carroll broke the scoreless tie in the 30th minute.
Deanna Lord (Cave Creek, Ariz. / SO) beat the Yellow Jackets keeper to the bottom right of the net off of an assist from Emily Funseth (Great Falls, Mont. / SR) to give the Saints what would end up being the game-winning goal.
Maria Ackerman (Billings, Mont. / FR) earned her second shutout wins in as many tries to start her collegiate career, saving three shots in the win.
Carroll will remain in Billings until Saturday, when they square off with MSU Billings at 3 p.m.
